learning new things
Friday. 11.10.06 11:53 pm
Ok. Here goes. I am brand new to this so if I suck at it then please let me know. I have had like this very long crappy day. I took my husband to the hospital at 10:45 AM today for hernia surgery. Things started off really well. They took him right back, got him prepped and whisked him off at 12:00 PM. I thought, mistake #1 "Hey, they are on the ball".

I then went to the waiting room and searched till I found a lone chair away from everyone else. The surgery was suppose to last 1 hour. Making use of the time, I had brought a stack of mail, papers and other miscellaneous stuff that needed my attention, with me. About half way through my stack I glanced at my watch to see that it was 2:00.
Hmmmm, maybe they called for me and I didn't hear them, mistake #2. A trip to the volunteer desk yielded no news. Noone had called for me and they had not heard anything. I thought, mistake #3 no news must mean good news. I went back to my stack. I finished going through everything I had brought with me and noted that now it was 3:00. Now warning bells are going off in my head.

I detest confrontation, but concern won out, and I went back to the desk and politely requested that they call someone and find out just exactly where my husband was. At 3:20 the volunteer said that my husband was now in recovery, but I could not see him, and the doctor was already in another operation. Now, I am very very upset and full of questions. Why did his "1 hour" surgery turn into 2 hours and why had his doctor not come out to tell me anything. [side note: my mother in law is calling every 30 minutes from Huntington West Virginia wanting to know what is happening to her son, and is getting more and more upset with my lack of knowledge]

At 4:00 PM I go back to the desk and say in a little less polite tone this time that if I don't see my husband or talk to a doctor soon, they are going to have another type of patient to deal with. [actually I was not that mean but wanted to be] Just as I finished my demand, the phone rang and I was told I could go see my husband. I found him semiconscious, totally clueless, and in pain. My questions to his nurse as to why it took so long and where was his doctor, were met with vacant eyes. [her response was, "I don't know"]

At 6:00, 5 hours after he was taken into surgery, his doctor comes in. Seems my husband had an indirect and a direct inguinial hernia [side note: 2 hernias in the groin area "ouch!] That is why his surgery took so long. Due to his surgery taking longer he had to go right into his next surgery, which was why I was just now seeing him.

End result: I finally got him home, got him settled, got his pain meds in him and turned my attention to my 2 daughters.

Before signing on here I felt totally drained and lifeless. Thanks to middaymoon and the tp story, a little light has come back to me. So I say thank you thank you for bringing some humor to my otherwise rainy day.

Oops.

Welcome newbie, to Nutang.

Sorry you had such a sucky day. :(

Next time you might want to break that up into smaller sections. It's a bit harder to read when it's all mushed together like that.
